Top Tourism Operator appointed to Air New Zealand Board
Paul Bingham, one of New Zealand's top tourism operators, has been appointed to the Air New Zealand Board as an additional non executive Director.
The appointment was announced today by Air New Zealand Chairman John Palmer.
Mr Bingham, 39, is the Managing Director of Black Cat Cruises, the award-winning cruise operator based at Banks Peninsula, near Christchurch.
He is also a Board member of Tourism New Zealand and Chair of Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism.
Mr Palmer said the Air New Zealand Board recognised the critical importance of tourism to the national economy and the company. "We deliberately set out to find a hands-on operator who could bring some new and different perspectives to our Board. Paul's record in growing his business, especially in the important environment area, was exactly what we were looking for," he said.
Mr Bingham has received a number of awards for his business growth and innovation in environmental tourism.
Mr Palmer said Mr Bingham's experience at regional tourism forums and as a member of the Tourism New Zealand Board will also provide valuable industry links for Air New Zealand.
Mr Bingham has been Managing Director of Black Cat Cruises since 1999. Prior to his current position, he held a number of senior marketing roles at Tourism Holdings Ltd and Air New Zealand.
Mr Bingham's appointment is effective 1 July.
