The Mervyn; The Gordon; The Barbara: The sexy reinvention of the milkshake has landed
ShakeAway is being launched in New Zealand and is reinventing the good ol’ classic milkshake. No longer just about the
chocolate, vanilla, banana and strawberry flavours, the sexy shakeaway ‘shake’ introduces over 150 flavours from apple
pie to party mix.
The public can get their first taste of a ShakeAway on the fifth of July at Westfield Manukau. Scratchy card specials
will be available on the day along with tasters handed out by the ‘Shakettes’.
Franchisees Lesley and Graham Sowden are excited about offering a unique twist to the traditional milkshake.
“All the ingredients are sourced in New Zealand, and our menu is Kiwified. We use hokey pokey biscuits, jaffas,
snifters, toffee pops and other iconic New Zealand flavours,” says Lesley. “It really is a fun and exciting way to have
a milkshake, there are so many different flavours to suit every person’s tastebuds.”
ShakeAway’s extensive menu also offers milkshakes for the dairy intolerant, the coeliac sufferers, and the vegan. The
milkshakes are all made with real New Zealand milk and real New Zealand ice cream; no syrups or artificial flavours are
used.
Graham says that with ShakeAway is not just about the milkshakes. The fun and interactive website is a big part of it
too.
“You can join the fan club, take your shakeaway cup around the world and get your photo posted, or play online games
with Madame Iris the cow” he says. “The ShakeAway website connects New Zealand shakettes to the Aussie shakettes and to
the pom shakettes.”
ShakeAway was first established in the United Kingdom in 1999 and has created a cult following with over 8,000 fan club
members.
