TRENZ 2009 goes to ‘City of Sails’

TRENZ (Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand) 2009, New Zealand’s biggest annual tourism business event, will be held in Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’, next year.

Tourism Industry Association (TIA) Acting Chief Executive Oscar Nathan announced the news today at TRENZ 2008 in Rotorua.

TRENZ 2009 will be held at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds from Monday 8 June to Thursday 11 June 2009. TRENZ was last held in Auckland in 2003.

“As New Zealand’s biggest city and the gateway to New Zealand for more than 70% of all visitors, Auckland is perfectly positioned to host TRENZ 2009. TRENZ brings together 1200 New Zealand tourism operators and international buyers for four days of totally focused business-to-business activity, Mr Nathan said.

“It is an important forum for the New Zealand industry to showcase product, forge relationships with international buyers and write business for the seasons ahead. About 50 international and New Zealand media also attend the event.”

Tourism Auckland Chief Executive Graeme Osborne said Auckland offers an outstanding visitor experience from boating trips to the beautiful islands of the Hauraki Gulf to bungy jumps off the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, the Auckland Sky Tower.

“Auckland has a diverse culture, its people include South Pacific and Asian cultures and a strong indigenous Maori heritage. This brings with it an abundance of unique dining, shopping and festival experiences,” Mr Osborne said.

“The New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 acknowledges the pivotal and influential role of Auckland in the wider New Zealand tourism sector. TRENZ 2009 being hosted in Auckland represents an ideal opportunity to showcase destination New Zealand from the perspective of the world’s fifth rated lifestyle city.”

“The enhanced visitor arrival experience at Auckland International Airport announced today, will also contribute to an even better experience for visitors,” he added.

Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive George Hickton said it is important to ensure New Zealand regions share the TRENZ event.

“By hosting this key event in different regions it enables us to show off a different part of the country to international buyers, thereby increasing knowledge of our regions,” Mr Hickton added.

“The timing of TRENZ 2009 will align with the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) event due to be held shortly after TRENZ 2009 in Melbourne next year,” Mr Nathan said.
