Australians highly satisfied with NZ visit

Australians highly satisfied with New Zealand visit

Data just released by the Ministry of Tourism shows very high levels of satisfaction amongst Australian visitors to New Zealand’s regions.

“The Regional Visitor Monitor (RVM) shows that our Australian visitors are amongst our happiest customers,” said Bruce Bassett, Ministry of Tourism Research Manager. Australians gave an average overall satisfaction rating of 8.3 (out of ten), higher than the benchmark for other international travellers of 8.1. Scores of “excellent” were provided by three-quarters of all respondents for the categories of ‘scenery’, ‘friendly/welcoming people’ and ‘a safe and secure place to visit’.

The research also highlighted that the expectations of the Australian visitors were being exceeded, with a clear picture emerging of their satisfaction levels being higher than the expectations they had for the regions they visited (refer Supplementary Data Sheet). Mr Bassett said that it was great to know that expectations of Australian visitors were being exceeded in key areas, particularly given the importance of the Australian market as the source of nearly 40% of New Zealand’s international visitor arrivals.

“It’s encouraging to know that we are doing things right in providing a great experience to our Australian visitors so they return home happy and singing New Zealand’s praises to their friends and relatives.” The RVM is a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism New Zealand and the Regional Tourism Organisations for Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, Canterbury, Queenstown and Dunedin. The results reflect findings that are representative of the participating regions only.

The RVM National Benchmark Report is available from www.tourismresearch.govt.nz.
