Accor Meets High Workplace Safety Standards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12 May 2008

Accor Meets High Workplace Safety Standards

Accor has once again reached the highest level possible in ACC’s Workplace Safety Management Practices programme.

Accor is an international group of more than 4,000 hotels in nearly 100 countries, with 28 hotels throughout New Zealand. All of Accor’s Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure and Ibis hotels in New Zealand, as well as The Yacht Club Hotel, Picton, are involved in the programme and comply with the highest standards.

The scheme’s three rankings are primary, secondary and tertiary and as of next March, companies wishing to do business with any government department must reach at least secondary level.

The Workplace Safety Management Practices programme involves registered companies having their health and safety practices audited every two years, to encourage businesses to improve these practices and receive discounted levies. While many companies do reach tertiary level at one point, it is a real achievement to maintain these standards through each successive audit. Accor has been in the programme since 2002 and has been at tertiary level since 2004.

Accor’s New Zealand Training and Compliance Manager Stephen Tiney says this kind of programme is a great way of ensuring that practices are up to scratch.

“ACC’s Workplace Safety Management Practices programme assists us in maintaining the best practices in the field of health and safety and helps us to control risk management. It also means we are in a position to confidently pursue government contracts knowing that we are compliant with these strict standards.”
