Update on Gen-i's roaming upgrade programme in Aus

Further to Telecom’s media release of 22 April 2008, “Telecom prepared for Telstra network closure”, this note provides further information about Gen-i’s Roaming Upgrade Programme.

Gen-i, Telecom’s business division, is committed to making sure its corporate clients can continue to roam in Australia following Telstra’s CDMA network closure in Australia, scheduled for 28 April 2008.

Following Telstra’s closure, Gen-i clients will require a WorldMode or other roaming device when travelling to Australia. For those clients without a WorldMode phone, Gen-i has introduced a range of upgrade plans for its clients, based on a review of each user’s roaming requirements. All Gen-i clients have been notified of the closure, and Gen-i Client Managers and Telecom Mobile Dealers are working with their clients to manage the upgrade process and minimise the impact of the Telstra CMDA network closure.

The plans are based around Telecom’s WorldMode Global Roaming service and may include free upgrades to a WorldMode or other roaming device for frequent roamers.

Some users may choose not to upgrade to a WorldMode phone, and can instead use a free loan phone provided by Telecom if required.

The solutions for Gen-i clients roaming in Australia are as follows:

For users requiring a voice device
The upgrade criteria includes a review of the number of times each user has roamed in Australia, plus total roaming expenditure over the last 12 months. It also looks at their future roaming requirements.
* Qualifying clients can receive a free upgrade to a WorldMode roaming device, i.e. the Samsung W531 or Okta Mondo.

For users requiring a PDA
The upgrade criteria includes a review of the number of times each user has roamed in Australia plus total roaming expenditure on voice and data over the last 12 months. It also looks at the user’s future roaming requirements.
* Qualifying clients can receive a free upgrade to a WorldMode BlackBerry 8830 or Windows roaming device.
* Clients wanting to upgrade to the BlackBerry will need to work with their Gen-i Client Manager to assess if they have the necessary infrastructure required to support the device.


For users requiring a Datacard:
The upgrade criteria includes a review of the number of times the user has roamed in Australia and total roaming expenditure over the last 12 months. It also looks at the user’s future roaming requirements.
* For this option, qualifying users can receive a free data card that will allow them to roam in Australia and around the world.


About the Telecom WorldMode Global Roaming service
The Telecom WorldMode Global Roaming service provides clients with an improved roaming experience, allowing them to roam to around 140 countries for mobile voice services and around 70 countries for data, including Australia. Telecom has split the world into five zones, with Fixed Zone Billing for mobile voice and data usage. This means a mobile customer can travel with cost certainty, irrespective of which country they are in or network being used. WorldMode roaming gives users the ability to access both types of mobile network (CDMA and GSM/WCDMA) using their Telecom phone number and voicemail.
