Paul Holmes sells oil to China
He’s used to talking up a storm at home but now Paul Holmes has talked his way into selling oil to China.
The seasoned New Zealand broadcaster has sold “healthy quantities” of his Mana Lodge olive oil to Shanghai’s “leading restaurant”.
“I believe Mana Lodge is the first New Zealand business to take advantage of the recently-signed free trade agreement with China,” Mr Holmes says.
He has been in China with the New Zealand Trade & Enterprise team accompanying trade minister Phil Goff for the signing of the landmark agreement.
While in Shanghai Mr Holmes visited top restaurant Hamilton House taking along a few samples of the olive oil produced on his 150-acre property in Hawkes Bay.
“They absolutely loved it,” he reported in a call home today. “Philippe the chef told me the Mana Lodge oils are outstanding and he had to have some. I was happy to oblige.”
Hamilton House serves French cuisine in a beautifully restored “Concession House” in the Bund area of Shanghai.
Paul Holmes Mana Lodge Olive Oil is produced in two varieties. Leccino is “an elegant oil of rich golden colour and is ideal for spring and summer dining”.
Frantoio is a complex and intense oil with “lively aromas conjuring thoughts of fresh herbs and green peppercorns”.
