Canon Joins Fight Against Breast Cancer

Media Release
14th March 2008

Canon Joins Fight Against Breast Cancer

Canon New Zealand has joined the fight against breast cancer with the announcement the company will donate a percentage of sales from its new Digital IXUS 80 IS camera range to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).
Ten dollars from every IXUS 80 IS camera sold will help NZBCF promote awareness of breast cancer, provide information and education, fund research and support breast cancer related initiatives.

Executive Director of The NZBCF, Helen Mawn, says Canon's camera range is a wonderful new addition to the NZBCF's pink ribbon product range.

"It's a quality, fun product, and one I'm sure many people will enjoy using to help a good cause. With breast cancer touching so many lives in New Zealand, it's a reminder too of just how important it is to have photos and images of our loved ones," says Helen Mawn.

Kim Conner, general manager of Canon Consumer Products, says as market leader Canon needs to lead the charge in terms of giving something back to its customers.

“Approximately 2,400 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in New Zealand, yet it affects the lives of so many more,” says Kim Conner. “These women are our customers; they are also our mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, friends and colleagues.

“This product sales support is a first for Canon New Zealand and we are committed to raising as much money as we can through this popular new camera range to support NZBCF in its battle against Breast Cancer.”

The pocket-sized cameras are expected to be hot-sellers and come in a range of colours including pink – the colour that represents Breast Cancer Awareness. For those who don’t like pink the four other colours (silver, camel, brown and blue) will ensure there is one for every preference, or outfit. And best of all $10 from each camera, regardless of colour, is donated to the NZBCF.
