The Warehouse Group has been selected as a finalist in two categories at the prestigious World Retail Awards 2008. The company joins an esteemed line up of retailers from around the Globe shortlisted for the Responsible Retailer of the Year and Employer of the Year accolades.
In the Responsible Retailer category, The Warehouse is shortlisted with five leading international retailers including; Carrefour Group (France), Sainsburys (UK), Tesco (UK), Woolworths SA (South Africa) and C&A Europe (Germany).
In the Employer of the Year – a new category for 2008 - The Warehouse is shortlised with fellow finalists ASDA (UK), Boots (UK), JCPenney (US), and Recreational Equipment Inc (US).
In selecting the six Responsible Retailer finalists, the panel was looking for international and domestic retailers who demonstrated an approach towards corporate responsibility that was embedded in their business and its operations. They sought companies who had set new world-class standards of good practice through initiatives that 'added ethical value' and represented a long term commitment in the areas of employment practices, sourcing, environmental policies, fair trade and supply chain.
The Employer of the Year finalists had to demonstrate policies and initiatives that make them a popular place to work. The criteria included staff retention rates, people policies that make the candidate a stand out employer and evidence of how those policies impact positively on employees.
The World Retail Awards aim to highlight and reward excellence across key areas of retail skills and operations. In addition to Responsible Retailer of the Year and Employer of the Year, awards will be presented in the following seven categories:
