Enjoy Your Eggs Then Recycle
Enjoy Your Eggs Then Recycle
An estimated 4 million chocolate Easter eggs will be eaten this Easter weekend and the Paper Forum urges families to enjoy the experience – and then to put out the cardboard wrap with the normal paper recycling.
Ashley Chisholm, General Manager of the Paper Forum, says that Easter eggs are packaged in cardboard boxes for good reason:-
“Chocolate eggs in boxes are the most popular choice as they are intended as a gift and the cardboard protects the delicate chocolate egg on its way from the manufacturer via the retailer, purchaser and finally to the recipient of the Easter egg.”
“We Are Encouraging People To Enjoy Their Chocolate Eggs And Then Put The Cardboard Packaging Out With Their Recycling. 97% New Zealanders Have Access To Recycling And We Are Proud That Our Paperboard Recycling Rate Stands At 76% Which Is One Of The Highest In The World.”
“If you take into account paper that cannot be recycled such as books, archives, or papers used in construction materials then the maximum theoretical recycling rate for paper would be 81% instead of 100%.”
“So munch and indulge this Easter knowing that you’ll be giving a boost to New Zealand chocolate manufacture as well as local packaging suppliers. And as you put on your running shoes to work off the calories, put your cardboard in the recycling bin. Remember the cardboard which protects and adorns the chocolate egg is 100% recyclable.”
