BRANZ Seminars on Sustainable Design

MEDIA RELEASE

BRANZ Seminars on Sustainable Design

19 March 2008

Anyone wanting to understand how their design choices impact on the energy efficiency of a building is encouraged to attend BRANZ’ sustainable design seminars, the first of which starts on 5 May in Dunedin.

While the seminar is aimed specifically at architects and building designers, anyone with an interest in energy efficient design is encouraged to register and attend.

According to BRANZ Marketing Manager, Richard Arkinstall, “The design choices people make when considering a new build or a renovation can have a significant impact on energy efficiency and energy usage.  While this seminar series contributes to the professional development of designers and architects, we know that there is a high level of interest amongst home owners, property developers and the general public on understanding sustainability issues in buildings.  These seminars are a good way for BRANZ to use practical examples to make this information available to a much broader audience than might otherwise be the case.”

The energy seminar will focus specifically on the:

issues to consider when designing for energy efficiency
impacts of design decisions
decision-making processes regarding relevant technologies
integration of both passive and active technologies into design
prioritisation of energy features
cost-benefits and impacts of trade-offs among (design) choices

The Sustainable Design Series is funded by Building Research and this particular seminar, “Sustainable Design Series - Energy” is a joint venture involving BRANZ and Right House Ltd.
