Highlights from this year’s Auckland International Boat Show!
New Zealand’s
largest on water based boat show will this year feature more
than 200 exhibitors at the special 10th anniversary event -
The Auckland International Boat Show will be a showcase of
the latest in sail and power boats, marine equipment and
boat designs. This year’s show is an exciting opportunity
to meet the individuals and industry leaders behind New
Zealand’s largest manufacturing and growing export
industry.
Whether its yachts, power boats, inflatable dinghy’s, marine electronics, fine food, music entertainment or the daily fashion show, there’s something to keep everyone entertained. Organisers are predicting a bumper turn out of up to 25,000 people to attend the Viaduct Harbour event from March 6th – 9th.
As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations there is also a special $25 ticket available which allows you unlimited entry to the show over all four days.
The Pontus Catamaran
The Moorings brings
you the “Pontus”. A 43ft catamaran built in South Africa
by Robertson and Caine. The Pontus comfortably houses 10 –
12 passengers on board and features four double cabins and
two single cabins. The R&C boats have covered a combined 4
million ocean miles over the past decade and are considered
to be the some of best production cruising boats available.

Coastguard live
demonstrations.
This is your chance to get hands-on at
the Boat Show with Coastguard Boating Education! Visitors
will get the chance to maneuver a 'MAC 420' in Coastguard's
Powerboat Handling Challenge. The event is open to all
abilities (15yrs & over). The Challenge will consist of
negotiating a tight course at low speed against the clock.
Time penalties are applied for touching any of the marker
buoys or any excessive use of power from the Yamaha 50HP
engine. This is an exciting opportunity for boat show
attendees to actually step aboard and drive a boat on water
at the show.

Cruising for their on site daily seminars at the Auckland
International Boat Show and learn about their exciting
sailing rally’s around the Pacific. The Island Cruising
Rally’s allow you to tour from New Zealand on your own
boat through Tonga, Vanuatu, Fiji or New Caledonia, whilst
enjoying the safety and community feel of a journey led
fleet. The Island Cruising Association run Rally’s
throughout the year.

Daily Fashion
Show at 1pm
The introduction of a daily Fashion Show is a
new feature at the 2008 Auckland International Boat Show.
The Fashion Show will take place at 1pm each day and include
labels Line 7, Chapel Design, Crocs Shoes, Musto, Gearlocker
and Polly Pratt Women’s. A new area has been customized
on site at the Halsey Street venue to host the show. And
exciting fashion prizes will be given away by an MC for men
and women throughout the show.
The ‘Young 88’
The ‘Young 88’ from Mike Pearce Boat Builders will
also be a standout attraction at this years show. On display
as one of the locally designed and produced sailing yachts,
this class production boat is one of the top rated racing
and cruising yachts in New Zealand. This classic yacht
design is now in production again and will be of major
interest to yachtsmen around New Zealand.
The Yamaha
F350 V8
The Yamaha F350 V8 will also turn a few heads at
the show, having just won the US Boating Industry
Association’s Innovation Award which recognises
technological advancement, performance and environmental
measures. As the world’s biggest and most advanced
outboard the F350 is also the world’s first V8
outboard.
Raymarine’s new premier navigation G
Series System
Top line electronics will also feature at
the show such as Raymarine’s new premier navigation G
Series System. Used as a complete command and entertainment
system, this brand new navigation technology is an
Australasian first and will be launched at the upcoming Boat
Show.
Industry Information
The Marine Industry employs
10,000 people and exports around $600 million of business
each year. At this years show we can expect to bring in $100
million of business to the New Zealand Marine Industry.
