Britons Queue to get into New Zealand

While record numbers of Kiwis are heading across the Tasman, a New Zealand business at the sharp end of the international recruitment battle is expecting record numbers of Britons at its recruitment drives in the United Kingdom later this year.

Working In Ltd has upgraded the capacity of its Opportunities New Zealand Expo recruitment drives in London and Leeds to cope with expected foot traffic of up to 10,000 skilled potential New Zealand bound migrants.

“Last year we had difficulty coping with more than 5,000 people per day so we’ve upgraded our London venue to handle 10,000 visitors,” says Workingin Founder and Director Hayley Roberts. “We’ve also seen website traffic grow exponentially to almost 90,000 visitors per month as increasing numbers of skilled British and South African workers look to New Zealand for lifestyle changes and job opportunities.

“And interest in migrating to New Zealand has grown so much in South Africa that we are holding our first Expo in Johannesburg in July.

“Kiwis may think the grass is greener in Australia but increasing numbers of Britons and South Africans, clearly prefer the opportunities here in New Zealand. Over the past decade Workingin has helped thousands of Britons to join and contribute to New Zealand’s social and economic wellbeing.”

Working In Ltd has specialised in recruiting returning New Zealanders and new migrants to New Zealand since 1998 and works directly with Immigration New Zealand to identify skill shortages and seek recruits to fill those gaps.

“We work with some of New Zealand’s largest companies such as Telecom, IBM, Fisher & Paykel, and leading banks. The relationship with Immigration New Zealand means we can quickly bring in skilled migrants to plug critical skill and knowledge gaps in New Zealand.

“For example last year one of our telecommunications clients picked out CVs for 140 suitable candidates from one expo and at least 30 of those candidates are now working in the industry in New Zealand.

“All potential recruits at our events have paid to come to the Expo and have submitted their CVs. They are highly qualified candidates who want to come here and have the experience that New Zealand needs.

“We’re seeing increasing demand in the infrastructure and engineering sectors while there is a constant worldwide battle to recruit health sector staff.”

Working In Ltd will host four recruitment expos in the UK this year in London and Leeds in April and October with over 100 New Zealand businesses including telecoms, engineering, energy, health and local government sector organisations recruiting over the four, two-day expos. Migration, banking and leading real estate organisations like Bayleys are also on hand with many migrants buying their future homes directly through the expos.

“It’s a complete package, supported by internet and print channels, that appeals to both employers and potential employees,” says Ms Roberts. “We have appreciable and growing gaps in our knowledge and skills in New Zealand but our experience at Working In is that there is no shortage of skilled people wanting to come here and fill those gaps.”
