Travel Agent Welcomes Lower Airfares To Regions

The announcement by Air New Zealand of lower domestic airfares available from today is welcomed by New Zealand’s leading travel agent.

Flight Centre retail manager Jared Baker said the lower fares would be another boost for New Zealand consumers and to tourism in this country.

“Increased competition has meant increased numbers of domestic travellers this year, which is great for the economy, and we expect those numbers to improve again in 2008,” says Mr Baker.

“We are especially pleased to see that regions outside of the main ports will benefit from the lower fares.

“Destinations such as Nelson, New Plymouth and Tauranga, which have all suffered from high domestic fares in the past will undoubtedly benefit from lower fares and increased capacity in and out of those centres.”

Air New Zealand says the changes mean reductions of 9 to 27 percent on lead-in Smart Saver fares on almost 40 domestic routes.
