Coronet Peak Assistant Ski Area Manager Announced

Experienced management professional Nick Edwards has been appointed Assistant Ski Area Manager for Coronet Peak.

Mr Edwards moves to Coronet Peak from the Queenstown office of the Department of Conservation where he has worked for the past three years as a Programme Manager, Community Relations.

Southern Alpine Recreation CEO James Coddington said the company was pleased to announce Mr Edwards’ appointment and said he would be a great asset to both Coronet Peak and the broader Southern Alpine Recreation Limited team.

“Nick brings a highly valued mix of skills to the management of Coronet Peak. He’s extremely knowledgeable about environmental sustainability, has considerable management experience and is committed to our vision for the mountain. He’ll play a crucial role in enhancing the sustainability of almost everything we do across our alpine resorts.”

Nick, who started his new role yesterday (Monday 21 January), reports directly to Coronet Peak Ski Area Manager Hamish McCrostie.

“Nick and I worked together while he was at DoC and I was always impressed by his passion for the ski industry, the alpine environment and his results-driven approach. I’m looking forward to working with Nick to showcase the enhanced Coronet Peak experience to local and international customers,” said Mr McCrostie.

Nick has dual New Zealand and Australian nationality and relevant industry experience through managerial positions in the snow industry in USA and France. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management.

“This is an exciting time to join Southern Alpine Recreation. It’s a dynamic and progressive organisation with a clear management vision,” said Mr Edwards.

“The redevelopment of Coronet Peak has created huge potential and I am pleased to accept a role working with Hamish and the team that will help shape the future of this popular mountain.”

A qualified NZSIA stage 1 ski instructor, 33 year old Mr Edwards is also well traveled. He has worked in non-snow tourism as a bungy and paintball site manager in the UK, and in the natural resource management industry with the Water and Rivers Commission in Perth and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources in Sydney.

As Assistant Ski Area Manager (a role formerly titled Mountain Manager) Mr Edwards has responsibility for all outdoor departments on the mountain; patrol, snowmaking, lifts, grooming and maintenance.
