Election in the Southern South Island Ward

Media Release

16 January 2008

Meat & Wool New Zealand election in the Southern South Island Ward

Three Meat & Wool New Zealand director nominations have been received in the Southern South Island electorate.

The candidates are Leon Black of Riverton, Hilary Mcnab of Owaka and Finlay Weatherburn of Gore.

The current Southern South Island director, Jeff Grant is retiring at the completion of this term in March. He was the first chairman of Meat & Wool New Zealand, when it was formed in 2003 and stepped down from that role last year.

Meat & Wool New Zealand chairman, Mike Petersen, was the only nomination received for the Eastern North Island electorate and so is elected unopposed.

Election day for the Southern South Island electoral district is Wednesday 5 March 2008 and only registered electors can vote.

The election will be conducted by postal and internet ballot, and voting papers, together with information about the candidates, will be sent to registered electors on Tuesday 12 February 2008.

Voter registration forms can be obtained by calling the Election Hotline and they must be returned before 5 pm on Tuesday 5 February 2008.

Voter inquiries should be directed to the Returning Officer on the Election Hotline 0508 666 336.
