Biggest Day On Record For Bluebridge
The New Zealand owned Bluebridge passenger ferries will cross Cook Strait a record ten times tomorrow (Saturday 22 December), carrying the largest number of passengers in the history of the company.
Just under 3000 people and over 1000 cars (plus freight) will be transported between the North and South Islands as Strait Shipping's Bluebridge ferries the Santa Regina and the Monte Stello cross the Strait the most times in one day and carry full capacity loads.
Strait Shipping spokesperson Wendy Pannett says the company is delighted to be helping so many New Zealanders and tourists reach their Christmas destinations.
"We're very excited about our busiest ever summer sailing schedule which kicks off tomorrow and the ability it gives us to help more people cross the Strait during a very high demand period," she says.
The Bluebridge ferries will sail up to ten times a day between tomorrow and 6 January when the schedule will revert to regular sailing schedule of up to eight one way crossings a day.
Ms Pannett says the summer is set to be a record one for the company with most sailings through to after New Year now almost completely full.
"Those that haven't booked their Cook Strait crossing will need to be flexible about sailing times and our advice would be to get in as quickly as possible."
The Bluebridge service, now in its fifth year since launch, has experienced huge growth throughout both peak and off peak seasons.
"Both New Zealanders and international visitors are extremely positive about our warm friendly service and its New Zealand ownership."
"We also have a flat rate pricing structure that appeals to our customers, with everyone onboard paying the same rate regardless of when they book or how close to Christmas they are traveling," she says.
