More Goodies in Christmas parcels: Thanks NZ Post
More Goodies in Christmas parcels Thanks to New
Zealand Post
There will be more Christmas treats in the Auckland City Mission’s Christmas Hampers this year thanks to an $11,500 donation from New Zealand Post.
The donation is part of New Zealand Post’s annual $50,000 donation to major food banks around New Zealand.
Auckland City Missioner Diane Robertson says the Auckland City Mission helps thousands of Auckland families in crisis situations with food, clothes, furniture and other goods each year.
“Christmas is especially busy for us here at the Mission. For those who come to us for assistance at this time, those on low or fixed incomes or families struggling with high rents, there is often enormous pressure to blow budgets in order to give children the treats they see their friends getting at Christmas.
“We would rather people come to us for help, which is why the donation from New Zealand Post is very helpful at this time of the year when our resources are stretched.
“The money provided by New Zealand Post will buy extra treats we normally couldn’t afford to provide. We are very thankful to New Zealand Post for its kind assistance at this busy time of the year.”
New Zealand Post Auckland regional sales and service manager Robyn Dalzell says New Zealand Post has been working in New Zealand communities, in one form or another, for over 165 years.
“Not everyone has a good time at Christmas – in our small way we can offer a helping hand to those who are stretched or stressed.”
Each Christmas the Auckland City Mission provides 700 food parcels to families and individuals. It also hosts an annual Christmas Dinner for around 1500. The Christmas Dinner is held in the Auckland Town Hall from 11.30 am – 2 pm, and provides a Christmas celebration for those who can’t afford their own or who would otherwise spend the day alone. The Mission will also give out 25,000 Christmas presents this year.
The Mission’s Christmas Appeal started on 01 December 2007. For more information about the Auckland City Mission’s Christmas Appeal visit www.aucklandcitymission.org.nz .
