Pegasus Town goes live

Pegasus Town goes live

Pegasus Town has achieved a major milestone today, with TelstraClear firing up the first telecommunications cabinet.

Pegasus Town, New Zealand’s largest fully zoned, integrated community is being built 25km north of Christchurch. TelstraClear’s cabinet will exclusively deliver the latest communications services to 2,000 homes and more than 5,000 people in the $1 billion project.

Pegasus Project Director Shane Fairmaid says the cabinet commissioning signalled a critical achievement in the delivery of the first completed residential stage of the greenfields project.

“A crucial milestone has now been achieved with the cabinet going live. This means all utilities are now live on site, opening the way to complete the issuing of titles process for stage one at Pegasus, which is great news”.

TelstraClear Head of Consumer Markets Steve Jackson says the cabinet, which has been modified to allow for two power sources, gives extra backup for TelstraClear’s InHome telecommunications services. It also provides Pegasus Town residents with free local calling to Christchurch and high speed internet access from the TelstraClear network within the town.

“We’ll be delivering our unique triple play offering - a phone, broadband and digital television package, to Pegasus homes, businesses and its community. In addition to the fibre-optic based communications network, additional micro-ducting (which allows for fibre-to-the-home) has also been provided to enable future proofing capability without the risk of needing to dig up the neighbourhood at a later date.”
This is the largest ever micro-ducting project undertaken by TelstraClear.

A one-off connection fee will provide customers with a broadband modem, TV set top box, boundary and premise cabling and a telephone line connection.
