Prime Minister Opens SKYCITY’s Latest Attraction
Prime Minister Helen Clark officially opened SkyWalk, SKYCITY’s latest adrenaline pumping attraction, at a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier today.
The Prime Minister said: “I see this as another dimension of adventure tourism in Auckland and making sure that our city's an all round destination for tourists looking for all kinds of things to do. I will be back to walk it.”
SkyWalk officially opens to the public on Saturday, 8 December. Adventure seekers are invited to take the heart stopping challenge of walking around the pergola ring of the Sky Tower, 192 metres above the streets below, with only a harness and safety rope holding you as you step onto the 1.2 metre ledge and walk the circumference of the Tower.
SKYCITY Auckland General Manager, David Christian, said: “SKYCITY prides itself on being a pioneer in urban adventure experiences. While towers elsewhere in the world offer an external walking experience, this is the first in the Southern Hemisphere to do so without rails or balcony, just the safety harness. This really elevates it from a sightseeing experience to an exhilarating adventure.”
The attraction is managed by the SkyJump team who run the base jump by wire experience from the Sky Tower and have a 100% safety record. SkyWalk costs $115.00 and group and student discounts are available.
