Interim Decision on Holcim Cement Plant Consents

Interim Decision on Holcim Cement Plant Consents

Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd has received an interim decision on its application for resource consents to operate a cement plant at Weston, near Oamaru.

The interim decision, issued by the three commissioners hearing the application, says they are minded to grant all the applications sought subject to finalisation of a range of conditions.

”Obviously we are delighted that the commissioners have issued an interim decision so promptly,” said Holcim Capital Projects Manager, Ken Cowie. “We now have to read through that interim decision in detail.”

Holcim New Zealand has until 19 December to provide a response to the commissioners on a range of conditions specified by them, including those relating to hours of operation, noise, air quality, and traffic management.

“While this is an important step towards a new cement plant at Weston being a viable option, the decision on whether this or any other cement supply option is pursued will ultimately be made by our parent company, Holcim Limited.”
