Top Ten Online Shopping Christmas Gifts for 2007!

Published: Wed 28 Nov 2007 01:13 PM
Please find attached Nielsen//NetRatings’ ranking of the top ten anticipated online shopping Christmas gifts for 2007. This is taken from the Nielsen Online - New Zealand Online Retail Monitor monthly tracker for November 2007.
The ranking is by percentage of New Zealand internet users who are intending to purchase Christmas gifts online in 2007. However, it is also very interesting to compare the results with actual purchases made online in the month of September. The clothing category, which has 43% of online Christmas shoppers anticipating buying this year for the holiday season, has only 13% of actual online purchases for September. Furthermore, books stands at 41% of Christmas intended purchases compared to only 9% actual for September, toys have 37% compared to 7%, beauty products 32 to 8%, non-downloaded music 21 to 5% and jewellery 20 to 5%. This signifies that the holiday season may produce a dramatic spike in online purchases within these specific product categories.
The Nielsen Online Christmas Snapshot Report is currently being sold in addition to the New Zealand Online Retail monitor. This 13 page report quantifies intended purchasing and spend online & offline specific to Christmas, the research and purchasing of gifts, travel, and entertainment specific to Christmas, the types of gifts purchased, research and purchase timings for Christmas, consumer motivations and demographic segmentation. The full report can be purchased for just $350.
