Baycity Communications Meets Demand For Mobile Disaster Relief Solution
Media release, 26 November 2007, BayCity Communications, Christchurch, New Zealand: BayCity Communications today
announced that it has signed an agreement to resell C-COM's iNetVu self-aligning mobile satellite dishes in New Zealand.
According to BayCity general manager Duncan Boennic, the new mobile solutions are likely to be used primarily by
organisations including Civil Defence, St John's Ambulance, police, fire brigade and the organisers of large events who
need to set up temporary command centres with broadband connectivity, outside the main urban areas.
“The need for mobile data and communication links is continually growing” says Boennic. “More and more organisations
are depending on network connectivity to be able to access vital services or communicate with a central office.
"With the iNetVu solution we are able to deliver a fully mobile solution that can deploy a high speed broadband
connection within minutes of reaching a destination. Speed of access is obviously key in a disaster relief situation,
particularly where other forms of communication may not be available.”
Canadian company C-COM sells the iNetVu dishes throughout the Americas, Canada, Europe, the UK, Africa and Asia, where
they are being used in applications from military to humanitarian aid projects. Most recently iNetVu satellite dishes
were used on hospital vehicles owned by the Mexican Ministry of Health following extensive flooding and damage caused by
Hurricane Dean in August this year.
“We are very pleased to have BayCity as a partner and are looking forward to working with them to deliver iNetVu mobile
communications solutions to their extensive customer base across New Zealand,” said Leslie Klein, President and CEO of
C-COM Satellite Systems Inc.
BayCity Communications' relationship with C-COM will enable it to deliver a range of mobile satellite communications
solutions for New Zealand based organisations. As the National Service Operator (NSO) for IPSTAR satellite broadband
services in New Zealand, BayCity will combine the iNetVu dishes with a high-speed broadband data connection to offer a
complete mobile communications solution.
The solution is ideal for companies needing to rapidly set up remote offices, event management or command centres at
short notice. The iNetVu dishes are designed to be installed on a range of mobile environments including trucks, vans
and trailers. Once installed the dish can be configured to automatically align itself at the press of a button and
provide customers with immediate access to services such as broadband Internet, VoIP telephony, data networks and video
conferencing.
