November 22 Edition Of The BNZ Weekly Overview
November 22 Edition Of The BNZ Weekly Overview
There was no Weekly Overview last week as I was in Japan but this week we have a look at some of the similarities and differences between the New Zealand and Japanese economies and the main points of discussion amongst delegates at the 34th Japan New Zealand Business Council meeting in Tokyo. We also give thought to some of the factors which may challenge the Auckland economy over the next few years plus take a slightly deeper than usual look at what is happening in the foreign-exchange markets and some of the economies overseas.
The Kiwi dollar has generally weakened compared with a fortnight ago in response to increased risk aversion around the world plus some weaker than expected numbers for local retail spending and the housing market. Fixed wholesale interest rates have also edged slightly lower.
