Amisfield Makes International Top 100 List

Amisfield the Only NZ Red Wine to Make International Top 100 List, with Wine Spectator Magazine

From a list of 15,000 wines worldwide, Amisfield Pinot Noir 2005 is the sole New Zealand red to make it on to Wine Spectator's prestigious list of the Top 100 Wines for 2007. Amisfield Wine Company’s flagship wine, the Amisfield Pinot Noir, has been ranked No 22 by the most influential wine magazine in the United States.

It is the second time Amisfield has gained this honour, the 2005 list acknowledging the Amisfield Pinot Noir 2003.

The Top 100 Wines list is compiled annually by Wine Spectator editors, who survey the wines the magazine has reviewed over the past 12 months and select the most exciting for inclusion. It comes from a selection of more than 15,000 wines from around the world which were reviewed in blind tastings. Each wine is graded based on four criteria: quality, value, availability, and then finally an X-factor which Wine Spectator calls ‘excitement’. Thirteen countries are represented in the 2007 list, tying it with 2006 for the most diverse group in the history of the Top 100, which debuted in 1988.

Amisfield General Manager Fleur Caulton says “We’re absolutely delighted to have made Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list for the second time. This recognition continues the domestic and international success of our label since we released our inaugural vintage in 2002.  To be the only New Zealand red wine to feature in such a distinguished line-up is a great endorsement of Amisfield’s commitment to quality and our ‘grown, not made’ philosophy.”

Amisfield Wine Company is a small specialist producer of Pinot Noir, aromatic whites and Methode Traditionelle wines, made with grapes sourced from their vineyard in Lowburn, Central Otago.

Now regarded as one of the leading producers of Central Otago, Amisfield wines can be found in top restaurants and boutique wine retailers across the globe.
