Transpower appoints new Chief Executive

Transpower appoints new Chief Executive - 15 Nov 2007

Transpower New Zealand today announced the appointment of Dr Patrick Strange to the position of Chief Executive. Patrick will start in his role this Monday 19 November 2007.

Patrick, a New Zealander, holds a PhD in Engineering and has held a number of senior executive roles in the energy sector in both the United States and New Zealand including Chief Executive of Vector Limited and directorships of Contact Energy Limited and Mighty River Power. Patrick was also instrumental in leading the 2003 Winter Power Taskforce established by the Government and industry.

Chairman Wayne Brown said that the Transpower Board had been highly impressed with the calibre and standard of all of the candidates.

“There are many challenges facing Transpower going into the future and the Board believes that Patrick’s expertise will help to lead Transpower successfully through its proposed transmission investment programme of $3.6 billion over the next ten years.”

“Transpower is now moving into a substantial construction phase with a number of major investments, especially in the Auckland area, now approved.”

“I have personally worked with Patrick in previous roles and believe that he is well-equipped to deal with the ongoing changes and challenges that Transpower is facing in ensuring that New Zealand continues to experience a first-class electricity supply and we look forward to working with Patrick into the future.”

New Transpower Chief Executive Patrick Strange said that he was looking forward to the challenge of leading Transpower.

"I’m excited to be part of an organisation that plays such a critical role in meeting the future energy needs of all New Zealanders by incorporating the Government’s focus on sustainable energy.”
