New Zealand natural products find their Asia-Pacific ‘Path to Market’
9 November, 2007
Five Kiwi natural products companies looking to expand into new markets will have the chance to showcase their products in Hong Kong next week, thanks to a New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) training programme.
Antipodes, Pacifica Skincare Ltd , The Derek Corporation (Kiri Skincare), Natural Health Laboratories and Sealord (nutraceuticals division) will all be exhibiting at the Hong Kong Natural Health Fair - the leading international marketplace for the natural health industry in the Asia Pacific region - as a result of taking part in NZTE’s ‘Path to Market’ programme.
Funded by Export Year 2007, the ‘Path to Market’ programme supports new export-ready companies who want to enter into specific markets by helping them develop their capabilities for a particular country.  This round has focused on New Zealand’s flourishing natural products industry, with the final aim of bringing companies to the Natural Health Fair - which this year has named New Zealand as its country of focus.
And with 2007 being Export Year, this sort of programme is ideal for reinforcing to companies the importance of exporting, says Barry Cowen, NZTE Business Manager for Natural Products.
“The Path to Market programme helps businesses who are thinking about exporting for perhaps the first time to really focus on their product and sales pitch,” he says.
“After a two-day training workshop which NZTE organised, the six participating companies went through a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style scenario and pitched their product to a panel of experienced business people.  Each company then got feedback and advice on how they could improve their pitch ahead of the Natural Health Fair.
“With New Zealand being the country of focus for this year’s fair, and with our natural products sector gaining so much international attention lately, the Natural Health Fair really will be a fantastic opportunity for the companies involved.”
The natural products market in Asia is one of the most dynamic in the world at the moment, with a consistently strong growth rate.
The sixth annual Natural Health Fair will take place in Hong Kong’s Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 14 to November 16, and will once again be combined with Cosmoprof Asia, the largest international beauty trade event in the region.
