InterContinental Judged Best in Australasia

InterContinental Wellington Judged Best Business Hotel in Australasia

InterContinental Wellington has been confirmed winner of both Australasia’s Leading Business Hotel and New Zealand’s Leading Business Hotel in the prestigious 14th Annual World Travel Awards.

The decision was reached by travel agents worldwide through a voting campaign in which 167,000 travel professionals worldwide participated, including more than 110,000 travel agents.

The World Travel Awards are hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the “Travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscars”, the most comprehensive and prestigious programme in global travel today.

These latest wins cap a year of award successes across a wide range of hotel disciplines.

Looking back on 2007, InterContinental Wellington general manager David Shackleton says he has only pride and respect for his team.

Over the past year, they have notched up regional, national and international awards in areas as diverse as bed making through to management.

Among the awards InterContinental Wellington notched up this year were:

IHG Asia Pacific InterContinental Manager of the Year: InterContinental General Manager David Shackleton.
Commis Chef of the Year Competition: Simon Mercer (certificate of merit for static hot meal served cold; chocolate fantasy dessert (bronze medal); live kitchen main and dessert (silver medal).
New Zealand Service Person of the Year: Joshua Comerford
Receptionist of the Year: Regional winner for Wellington and national runner up: Krystina Hanson.
Bed-making Competition: Linda Kirby and her housekeeping team.

“The fact that we have won awards nationally and internationally across the board is a tribute to the teamwork of everyone in the hotel. It’s been a great year and we’re all looking forward to even better things in 2008,” Mr Shackleton says.
