General Manager Suburban Newspapers – Appointment
David Penny has been appointed General Manager of Fairfax Suburban Newspapers in Auckland replacing current General Barry Leitch who is retiring in December.
David has over 24 years experience in publishing including 17 years leading various publications in New Zealand.
He has successfully held various management roles including Manager of the Central Leader and Auckland City Harbour News, and then 6 years as Manager of the North Shore Times Advertiser and North Harbour News.
For the past 8 years as General Manager of Central Community Newspapers he has lead considerable growth within Fairfax’s Wellington community titles. In addition to this role, since 2004 he has also been Deputy General Manager for the Fairfax Central Region, which includes the Dominion Post, C.C.N., Manawatu Standard and the Daily News in Taranaki.
“I look forward to working with a very talented team, and to continuing to provide quality local news for our readers and effective advertising solutions for businesses,” said Mr Penny.
Fairfax CEO Joan Withers said she was delighted to announce the appointment of David Penny. “David has achieved outstanding results during his time as General Manager at Fairfax Central Community Newspapers in Wellington. His extensive experience of community newspaper publishing means we are well placed to continue the growth of our Auckland Suburban newspaper business.”
We will be acknowledging Barry Leitch’s contribution to the company closer to his departure, but without doubt, he has led the Suburban’s business through significant change over a long period to a position where it continues to achieve world class results.
