Matakabs: The First Hybrid-Only Taxi Company
MEDIA RELEASE 31 OCTOBER 2007
Matakabs: The
First Hybrid-Only Taxi Company
New Zealand’s first
hybrid-only taxi company has arrived, emitting only a feel
good vibe into the environment.
Launched in July, Matakabs use only hybrid electric/petrol vehicles that have close to zero emissions*. With transport accounting for 46% of New Zealand’s carbon emissions, a taxi company that cares about the environment has been long overdue.
Founders Niki Bezzant and Sandy McNeur from Matakana (north of Auckland), say their customers get brilliant service and feel good about lowering their carbon emissions, without paying any more than a standard taxi.
“Choosing an environmentally friendly option shouldn’t have to cost more money or be less convenient than a conventional option,” says Niki.
Launched initially in Matakana in July of this year, the company already has expansion plans into the Auckland market.
Niki comments: “We’ve had overwhelming support from locals and visitors to the Matakana region for the service. People really care about looking after the land and the environment, and appreciate the ability to make a green choice, along with our professional service.”
“We can all do little things to help make a difference to climate change”, says Niki. “And lots of little things can add up to make a really big difference. When people take a Matakab, not only are they getting a great, friendly service to get them around our region, but they’re doing something positive for the environment as well.”
People don’t have to pay any more to ride in a Matakab because the owners firmly believe that being green shouldn’t be about deprivation and inconvenience.
“We’re not trying to preach a message. Our service is easy and fun, which is why we call ourselves the ‘feel good fare’!”, says Niki.
