The Rock Is NZ’s New Number One Radio Station
ZB knocked off number one by The Rock
RadioWorks’ station The Rock is now the most listened to radio station in New Zealand, according to the latest radio survey released today by Research International*.
The Rock has a nationwide market share of 11.7%, ahead of ZB on 11.3%*.
“This is an outstanding result for a station which has enjoyed tremendous audience growth over the last few years,” said RadioWorks Group Programme Director, Jana Rangooni.
“The Rock team, Brad King in charge and with Roger Farrelly, Simon Doull, Leah Panapa and Paul Ego on The Morning Rumble, have done a phenomenal job to lead the station to this number one position,” said Ms Rangooni.
The Edge has taken the mantle for the most number of listeners in New Zealand for a music station, with 420,300 listeners per week, a weekly increase of 41,600 listeners from the last survey 12 months ago#. The Edge is closely followed by The Rock with the most number of weekly listeners on 411,900, up 37,400 from a year ago#.
“To have the number one and number two music stations with the most listeners in the country for The Edge and The Rock is a brilliant result for the Company, and a credit to the very hardworking teams on both networks,” said Ms Rangooni*.
RadioWorks’ new talk station RadioLIVE has also enjoyed growth this survey, with its national share of listening up from 2.8% to 3.4%*. The station’s cumulative weekly audience has grown by 30,800 listeners to 152,700 per week – a 25% increase#.
“That is excellent growth in a competitive market,” said RadioWorks General Manager Talk Radio, Mitch Harris.
“We have made some quite substantial changes to RadioLIVE, including Marcus Lush’s move to breakfast, and that show now has an additional 19,000 listeners per week, taking it to 78,900##. That’s 32% growth in our breakfast audience which is an excellent trend in the right direction,” he said.
RadioWorks’ total market share nationally is up 1.1% to 40.4%*.
“One of the very encouraging outcomes of these survey results is that the total number of commercial radio listeners is up across the board, and that’s good news for the entire radio industry,” said Jana Rangooni#.
