Fairfax Group Head Of Digital Steps Down

Fairfax Group Head of Digital Steps Down

Bernard Hickey has decided to resign as Group Head of Digital from the end of this year so he can spend more time with his family in Auckland.

Bernard has spent the last six months travelling three days a week to Wellington to manage the Digital team.

"This has been the hardest decision of my corporate life and one I have not taken lightly. I have enjoyed working with the Digital teams throughout New Zealand, but have decided my family needs me to be at home at this time," he said.

"I regret leaving before I've had a chance to help further grow the presence of Fairfax Digital in New Zealand, but this was the only decision I could take. I wish my successor and the Digital team all the best and look forward to seeing the evolution of all our great websites from my browser at home.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Joan for her understanding and support at this time."

Joan Withers, Fairfax CEO said, "In the time Bernard has been in this role he has laid down a very solid foundation for our digital division and we have already launched some excellent initiatives under his leadership. He has assembled a team of highly talented people who will continue to drive our strategy to become the leading provider and innovator of digital information in New Zealand.

"I was very sad to receive Bernard's resignation as he is a highly valued member of our team however I fully respect his decision to step down and spend more time with his family. We have a three month period before Bernard leaves in which to make a new appointment to this important role within Fairfax Media."
