Jetstar passengers give carbon offsets the 'green' light
New figures show Jetstar passengers are investing in the environment. Within just one week* of the launch of Jetstar's new Carbon Offset Program, 10 per cent of all passengers booking online at Jetstar.com have chosen to offset their carbon emissions.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the uptake showed Jetstar passengers had embraced the initiative.
"We're thrilled that so many of our passengers have supported sustainable air travel, and the initial uptake is impressive," Mr Joyce said.
"By offering passengers choice and simplicity, Jetstar and the Qantas Group are striving to have the most successful carbon offset program within Australia and New Zealand.
"No doubt the simple and easy way our passengers can select to offset their emissions at the time of booking has helped achieve this result in just one week since launch."
Jetstar's Carbon Offset Program is part of the Qantas Group's new Carbon Offset initiative that was launched on 19 September 2007.
All funds contributed by passengers (net of GST) are directed towards Australian Greenhouse Office Approved Greenhouse Friendly TM Abatement Projects, which may include energy efficiency measures, waste diversion and recycling, generation of renewable energy and avoided deforestation projects.
Jetstar passengers can choose to offset their share of flight emissions when they book their flight, either through Jetstar.com or Jetstar Telephone Reservations (131 538 in Australia and 0800 800 995 in New Zealand).
