Legacy GT gets 2.5 litre motor

Subaru’s All-Wheel Drive Legacy GT B Spec receives a 2.5 litre turbocharged motor for the 2008 model year.

The four cylinder “boxer” engine replaces the two litre motor which has been used in the model until now.

The engine is a variation of the power plant already used in the WRX and the Forester XT models, all of which meet Euro 4 emission standards.

In the Legacy it is tuned to produce 184 kWs at 6000 rpm and 339 Nm at 3600 rpm, while in the WRX and Forester it comes with 169 kWs and 320 Nm.

The Legacy GT will continue with the choice of a six speed manual or five speed automatic gearbox mated to Subaru’s symmetrical All Wheel Drive transmission. It is available in both sedan and station wagon variants.

All models – sedan or wagon, manual or automatic – are priced at $59,990, in a rationalization of the upper ranges of the Legacy price list.

“We believe the Legacy GT now offers even better value for money,” said Chris Rickards, Subaru of New Zealand’s General Manager.

The previous Legacy GT was priced at $61,990 and $63,990 for the manual and auto respectively.

“With the addition of the 2.5 litre engine, sunroof and the passenger’s electric seat, along with standard features such as leather trim, 18” alloy wheels, Bilstein suspension and MacIntosh premium audio system the Legacy GT is a very complete package,” said Mr. Rickards.

Legacy GT continues with Bilstein sport’s suspension as standard equipment and four wheel ventilated disc brakes with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution).

There are dual front and side airbags, as well as front and rear seat curtain airbags. The Legacy GT has a five star ANCAP crash test rating, the highest and safest awarded.

The five speed automatic gearbox has Sportshift operation with paddles on the steering column and Subaru’s Intelligent Drive is also standard to provide economy or sports driving modes.

In the cabin the passenger’s seat has power operation for 2008, to join the eight way adjustable driver’s seat. The six stack CD McIntosh sound system which is MP3 & WMA compatible is complemented by steering wheel audio controls. The climate control air conditioning has rear seat vents.

The Momo sport’s steering wheel is leather trimmed, along with the gear lever and hand brake. Leather upholstery is standard.

The Legacy GT sits on 18 inch alloy wheels and has self leveling bi-xenon headlights with pop up washers. There is also a sunroof.

It comes with an immobiliser security and alarm system and DataDot technology. There is a three year unlimited kilometres warranty.
