Last Chance to Vote for Favourite Chippie
This week is the last chance for people to vote for their favourite chippie, as public voting in the Crisco Oils Best Chip Shop Competition 2007 will close on Sunday 30 September.
Goodman Fielder Commercial General Manager Sales and Marketing, Graeme Laurence, said each chip shop is still displaying its four or five digit code instore which people simply need to text to 4554.
“There are currently a number of shops in close contention,” Graeme said.
“The final week of voting could make all the difference for those in the running to become New Zealand’s top chip shop.
“We’ve had a record number of votes this year and expect many more to come in during the crucial final week.
“Customers can only vote once, therefore, they need to make sure that their vote counts.”
The top 20 shops in each region will be visited by a mystery judge before the local winners are announced on 26 October.
“The mystery judges will send a chip sample away from each shop they visit for chip fat analysis. They will also look at a range of criteria including chip freshness and colour, shop cleanliness and customer service.”
The six regional winners and grand national winner will then be announced on 8 November.
The Crisco Oils Best Chip Shop Competition 2007 is an initiative of the Chip Group – an industry collaboration that has been in place for almost a decade.
“The group, which includes The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand, has been working together to lower the fat content of New Zealanders’ favourite takeaway meal,” Graeme said.
“The judges will, therefore, be looking for chips that have been cooked using the Heart Foundation’s recommended frying techniques, which can reduce the fat content of chips by 20 percent.”
The Crisco Best New Zealand Chip Shop Competition 2007 is the country’s only national chip shop competition and is this year supported by Goodman Fielder, Huhtamaki, Bakels, Food2Go Magazine, McCain, Moffat, Mr Chips, Potato Growers of New Zealand, Premo Filtration, Southern Hospitality and the Heart Foundation.
As the main sponsor, Goodman Fielder is supporting the event under the new Crisco Oils brand.
