Manuka Health NZ signs deal to export honey products to Asian markets
Honey health science company Manuka Health New Zealand Ltd today (Wednesday, 19 September 2007) announced a distribution
agreement with South East Asian health products retailer Vistern Health, a subsidiary of Eu Yan Sang International Ltd.
The deal was signed today between EYS Malaysia General Manager Eric Chiu, Vistern Health Marketing Manager Annie Ng, and
Manuka Health chairman Dr Ray Thomson and CEO Kerry Paul at a ceremony in Auckland hosted by New Zealand Trade and
Enterprise.
The agreement provides for distribution initially of Manuka Health branded products in Malaysia followed by expansion
into other countries.
Eu Yan Sang is a household name in traditional chinese medicine with 122 retail outlets in Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia
and Singapore. EYS has been named Singapore's "Most Valuable Brand" for the last four years.
The company has 2007 revenues of S$142 million and is listed on the Singapore stock exchange. EYS also distributes
products worldwide through drugstores, pharmacies, medical halls, supermarkets, convenience stores, hospitals, health
clubs and spas.
Eu Yan Sang markets more than 280 products under its brand and more than 1000 Chinese herbs and other medicinal
products.
The group also operates a chain of 23 Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia --
comprising 17 TCM clinics in Malaysia, three in Singapore, and three "YourHealth" integrative medicine centres in
Australia. These specialist clinics and centres combine the best practices of conventional medicine, TCM, and natural
therapies to provide consumers with holistic healthcare.
Manufacturing activities are carried out at two GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified factories located in Hong
Kong and Malaysia. The Hong Kong facility has also received certification from Australia's Therapeutic Goods
Administration.
Mr Paul said the deal added to Manuka Health's global distribution network. The company's Te Awamutu factory already
exports more than 60 products to markets in 25 countries.
Manuka Health and Eu Yan Sang shared a similar business philosophy, Mr Paul said.
