Genesis Energy buys CA Clarity for project and portfolio management
Wellington, 18 September 2007 – Genesis Energy, New Zealand’s largest energy retailer and a significant energy
generator, has bought the CA Clarity project and portfolio management solution.
Genesis Energy programme manager Murray Collins says CA Clarity will initially be used for information technology
projects and is then intended to be rolled out into the company’s retail operations.
Genesis Energy manages hundreds of projects each year ranging in cost from tens of thousands of dollars to millions of
dollars.
Mr Collins says CA Clarity will automate Genesis Energy’s Programme Office and should streamline manual processes that
currently take up to five days a month down to around one day a month.
“CA Clarity will be used to manage projects, resources and capacity on a day to day basis. We will also use it to look
for risks that might be missed by manual processes.”
CA Clarity’s project management capabilities include automated workflow, a document management system for approvals, and
resource management. Its portfolio management capability analyses projects to ensure alignment with business directions.
Genesis Energy works closely with a number of external suppliers and CA Clarity will enable those suppliers to manage
projects and allocate resources so these are electronically consolidated.
Mr Collins said the benefits of implementing CA Clarity will include savings on projects which are rejected because they
do not align with business strategy and a reduction in manual data input for reports because real time data entry by
suppliers means you can see the status of the project on the fly.
