BNZ Monthly Survey Results - Sept 2007

Our monthly survey of the sentiment of Weekly Overview readers has found a slight improvement in conditions expected for the coming year to a net 26% pessimistic from 39% pessimistic in the early August survey. This result is likely to be partly driven by the sharp fall in the Kiwi dollar improving conditions for exporters perhaps also with the signal some weeks ago from the Reserve Bank that it doesn't anticipate having to raise interest rates any further. The improvement also comes about in spite of the global liquidity crisis which blew up after our previous survey in August. Residential real estate still looks weak but with a wide range of experiences not consistent with the sector straight-lining downward.

Best regards
