New Service Introduces Radio Hot Zones
New Service Introduces Radio Hot Zones
Auckland, New Zealand: Kordia™ Group Limited (Kordia™) is about to launch an innovative new service that takes the traditional Wi-Fi hotspot and stretches it over a CBD area – so users can log-on wherever they are, whenever!
Starting in Auckland and Taupo, Kordia™ is rolling out a nationwide network of smart radio nodes that will deliver wireless access ‘hot-zones’ across target areas like university campuses, city CBDs, shopping precincts, transportation hubs and more. Unlike ‘hot-spots’, the user log-on is portable - both inside and outside - so long as users are in a Kordia™ Metro Wi-Fi coverage area.
As Kordia™’s Metro Wi-Fi network is supported by RoamAD’s optimised wireless networking platform, the Metro Wi-Fi network is optimized to support mobile broadband data as well as and mobile VoIP/VoWiFi. The network can be easily accessed with any Wi-Fi enabled device such as a laptop, PDA or cell phone.
Kordia™ CEO Geoff Hunt says that, in partnership with innovative internet service providers (ISPs) like Orcon, Tomizone, FIVO, Bunker Media and KiwiWireless, Kordia™ will be pushing the Metro Wi-Fi service out to New Zealand’s savviest end-users from today.
“This is Kordia™’s first foray into the consumer market and another step towards bringing people and technology closer.
“Convergence means that New Zealanders want widespread, portable access to the internet, their email, voice data and more. Kordia™ Metro Wi-Fi will deliver all that using a low-cost, high-value ‘user-pays’ business model that works,” says Hunt.
“Kordia has combined an innovative, open-access business model with a pragmatic and targeted deployment plan to deliver cost-effective mobile broadband access for business travellers, tourists and cities throughout New Zealand,” said Martyn Levy, RoamAD’s CEO.
“RoamAD is delighted to be a part of bringing better broadband access in metro areas to New Zealanders,” added Levy.
Taupo is the first city to ‘go-live’ in the phase one rollout, with the Auckland suburbs of Parnell, Ponsonby, Remuera and Karangahape Road also running the service.
Wi-Fi users will soon be able to access the service in nearly 20 locations around New Zealand – around eight (including Whangarei, Auckland, Taupo, Dunedin, Wellington, Queenstown, Invercargill, Hamilton and Rotorua) are already up and running on Kordia™ building sites.
“The simplicity and cost-effectiveness of the service means that Kordia™ expects strong take-up over the next three years, with a vision for targeted Metro Wi-Fi coverage in every New Zealand city by 2010,” says Hunt.
