New “Fresh Fit” Menu at SUBWAY® Restaurants

Media Backgrounder 3 September 2007

New “Fresh Fit” Menu at SUBWAY® Restaurants

SUBWAY® has always been known for its tasty Sub sandwiches but now the company that started the “better for you” takeaway food philosophy is providing even more reasons for Kiwis to eat fresh.

From today SUBWAY® restaurants around New Zealand will offer a Fresh Fit menu of great tasting, low fat meals and side dishes to complement their existing menu. These new menu options provide adults and children with on-the go-meals that also fit with busy lifestyles and families seeking healthier choices.

The Fresh Fit meals feature tasty, nutritious SUBWAY 6-INCH® subs with 6 grams of fat or less. Fresh Fit for Kids™ offers children their own menu with a choice of three low-fat mini 4-inch subs.

This is the first time SUBWAY® restaurants has created a sub just for kids – a mini version of the subs Mum and Dad enjoy. At 4 inches, it’s a smaller size than that of a standard adult sub and replaces the deli-style sandwich that was on the kid’s menu.

And now it’s not just the subs on the menu. The SUBWAY® Fresh Fit Meal™ includes a choice of ‘fit’ drinks (Pump water, Primo low fat flavoured milk or Diet Coke) and a range of sides including fresh apple slices in a bag and Fresh ‘n Fruity yoghurt.

At the launch of the SUBWAY® Fresh Fit Meal™, registered NZ dietician Anna Richard says, “These age appropriate portions, with the inclusion of fruit, yoghurt and healthy drinks such as milk and water, offer healthier choices for families and teach children about healthy eating habits.
“Nutritionally the Fresh Fit meals are low-fat and provide good levels of protein and fibre, especially when consumers opt for wheat bread, sliced apples and milk or yoghurt as their menu options,” she says.
The new menus further reinforce the “Eat Fresh” positioning of SUBWAY® restaurants and encourage consumers to look for healthy options without compromising on taste.

In New Zealand, recent research has shown that 31% of children and more than half of adults are either overweight or obese.

SUBWAY’s Fresh Fit Meals™ offer a great-tasting, low-fat option for families who want to enjoy takeaway meals.

The Fresh Fit meals are valued at between $5.90 - $8.90 including a sub, sides and drinks, making them an affordable takeaway treat for the whole family.

SUBWAY® Fresh Fit will be available at SUBWAY® restaurants throughout the country from Monday 3 September.
