Unisys helps to deliver the SuperGold Card
New Zealand’s seniors and veterans can now enjoy access to a wide range of business discounts, as well as easy access to central and local government entitlements, through their new SuperGold Card.
The SuperGold Card was manufactured by Unisys, the Ministry of Social Development’s preferred supplier for the SuperGold Card’s card production and roll out.
Over half a million SuperGold Cards are currently being sent free to all New Zealand residents 65 years or older, and to those under 65 who receive Superannuation, a non-qualified spouse entitlement, or a Veterans' Pension.
The systems behind the SuperGold Card aim to keep a user’s identity and information safe and reassure providers and suppliers that the user is who they say they are.
“At Unisys we are aware of the issues and complexities surrounding the introduction of identity and entitlement systems. We were able to work with government to streamline ways to deliver benefits to those who need them most,” says Brett Hodgson, Managing Director, New Zealand. “Unisys has considerable expertise in providing identity management systems to governments around the world, from driver’s licences and ID cards, border control and customs agencies, to airport and port security. In the case of the SuperGold card, flexible, scalable entitlement credentials will help the Ministry of Social Development achieve its social objectives of delivering care, services and discounts to New Zealand’s older citizens and veterans.”
Unisys worked in partnership with Eyede New Zealand for card production and the New Zealand Automobile Association (AA) for the optional photo card aspect on the new SuperGold Card.
Unisys also provides card production and support services for approximately 600,000 Community Services Cards each year for the Ministry of Social Development.
Unisys has implemented identity management and biometric solutions for government agencies around the world. Recent examples includes the MyKad (multipurpose ID smartcard) project for the National Registration Department in Malaysia, Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship as part of the Australia’s Border Control programme, biometrics field trial for Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC), U.S. Registered Traveller program for the USA Transportation Security Agency and the HANIS (Home Affairs National Identification System) project for the Department of Homeland Affairs in South Africa.

Organisations
and governments today confront potential security threats
that didn’t exist a decade ago, or, if they did, were not
thought of as credible. The issues and potential solutions
are complex. The Unisys approach to security is
differentiated from that of our competitors in that we take
a broader set of political, economic and consumer forces
into account. Our approach to security is beyond ‘bits
and bytes’ to reflect a multidimensional security
‘ecosystem’, with many inter-related interests, and in
which the most effective solutions are going to be those
formed through collaboration between stakeholders -
business, government and consumers. For more information,
