The Langham Auckland Wins Best New Zealand City Hotel
Auckland – 24 August 2007
The Langham Auckland is thrilled to have been awarded best New Zealand City Hotel at the 2007 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence.
The awards recognise hospitality distinction throughout New Zealand, Australia, and the South Pacific.
Other finalists in the best New Zealand City Hotel were Mollies Auckland, Hilton Auckland, Stamford Plaza Auckland, Intercontinental Wellington, The George Christchurch and Sofitel Queenstown.
The Langham Auckland’s managing director Mr John Dick received the award in Sydney saying: “I am overjoyed to receive this award.  We have worked hard to develop the Langham brand in New Zealand.  We have invested a lot of money into the property but there is no doubt that our point of difference is our staff. It is their passion, pride and their continual endeavour for perfection that allows us to stand out.”
Over 600 different properties were nominated for this year’s awards in 39 separate categories. There were two categories exclusively for New Zealand properties which included best New Zealand City Hotel and best New Zealand Regional Property (won by Treetops Lodge Rotorua).
The Langham brand entered New Zealand in January 2005 and has since invested more than NZ$14 million in to their Symonds Street property.  The Langham has gone against the current minimalist décor trend and instead created an elegant, opulent environment offering guests an authentic five-star experience.
The Langham Auckland’s sister property The Langham Melbourne was awarded best Hotel Day Spa at the awards.
