Property Market Fundamentals Still Sound

Media Release: 23 August 2007

Property Market Fundamentals Still Sound

Mike Pero Mortgages Chief Executive Jeff Staniland says genuine home-buyers should not be put off seeking a home just because some commentators are suggesting the market is heading for a contraction.

“There are still affordable options for families looking to buy a home,” says Jeff Staniland.

“We advise people to talk to their mortgage broker before they start looking and definitely before they sign-up for a property. It’s very important for home-owners to get good, unbiased advice so they can be sure they have considered all their options,” he says.

A recent Colmar-Brunton survey found that Mike Pero Mortgages is the most trusted source of independent mortgage advice.

“The market has slowed over the past couple of months, but so far this has been shown by the reduction in the number of houses selling rather than falling prices. Sellers are simply waiting until the market meets their price while buyers are being more discerning and taking the time to find what they really want.”

“People buy homes for lifestyle and security reasons and we advise them to think about the long-term. We work with clients to find the best balance between the affordability of their mortgage now, while paying it off as quickly as possible to reduce overall interest costs.”

“Home-owners not looking to sell should also keep in regular contact with their broker so they can review their options and avoid ‘mortgage-stress’.”
