Christchurch Airport secured as Pacific Blue home base
Christchurch International Airport Limited (CIAL) has successfully secured the New Zealand base of operations for Pacific Blue's domestic airline operation, reinforcing CIAL's position as the leader in developing the value based air travel market in New Zealand.
CIAL's Chief Executive, Rene Bakx, said the decision to base the domestic operation in Christchurch was positive for the South Island tourism industry as well as the local economy.
"Building domestic tourism alongside our international services is essential to the development of business in the South Island and in the region. The location of this value based operation by Pacific Blue at Christchurch will provide ongoing economic benefit of great value to the South Island and to the city of Christchurch," said Mr Bakx.
The airline will initially fly at least five services per day from Christchurch with the intention of more services in time. Domestic services will commence in early November. Pacific Blue's head office and international operations have been based in Christchurch since the airline launched its Tasman services in January 2004.
