Health Funds Association announces New President & Executive Director
The Health Funds Association of New Zealand (HFANZ) today announced two new appointments at the top. As of today Steve Boomert, CEO of TOWER Health & Life, takes over the reins as President of HFANZ, while Roger Styles has been appointed as the Association’s new Executive Director effective 1 September.
Steve Boomert has been TOWER’S representative on the HFANZ Board since 2005 since returning from overseas and has played a key role in the development and strategic direction of the Association. Mr Boomert takes up the role from the retiring President Dermot Martin. Having held the position since 2000, Mr Martin decided it was time to hand over the reins.
Mr Boomert said, “It has been great to be able to lift the presence of HFANZ and contribute to the challenges in the health sector at a strategic and policy level. It is also heartening to see health insurance coverage increasing and more New Zealanders receiving its benefits”.
Roger Styles has been with HFANZ for the last 15 months, working alongside Executive Director Claire Austin who leaves this month to take up an Australian based role. Mr Styles has a strong background in public policy and is looking forward to helping advance health outcomes from a broader health financing perspective.
“We recognise that the private system has a key role to play in a well balanced health system that can respond to changes in demographics and technology” Mr Styles says.
