Dreams come true for Glenfield Million Winner

Dreams come true for Glenfield Million Winner

From minimum wage to Moet, another Lotto winner is now experiencing the good life.

An Auckland resident celebrated the $1 million first prize win in last weekend's Powerball draw by sharing her first bottle of Moet with family.

After working for forty years on minimum wage, she is quitting her job to retire. She says she is going to take her time deciding what to do with her newfound wealth, but she definitely has a few ideas of what she'd like to do.

"I've always wanted to buy my own house – and I've never been able to. That's my biggest dream."

Lotto's 336th millionaire scooped the $1 million First Division prize pool on a ticket bought at Magazine City and Lotto in Glenfield, Auckland.

"Congratulations to our latest millionaire – who sounds like she is going to make good use of her winnings," says Todd Macleay, NZ Lotteries Chief Executive. "The very first Lotto draw was held on 1 August 1987, and since then thousands of New Zealanders have won Lotto First Division," says Mr McLeay.

The winner had bought two tickets for last weekend's Powerball draw, with the first ticket yielding no wins.

"I was looking through the second and marking the numbers off – all of a sudden I just looked at the second to last line and realised I had five numbers then looked again and realised I had six!"

The local Glenfield resident has been buying tickets since the first Lotto ticket went on sale twenty years ago, and says she has no plans to stop.

She wants to remember this particular moment for a long time – she is planning to get a copy of her winning ticket framed.
