Sir Angus Tait
The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (CMA) says that the passing of Sir Angus Tait is a huge loss to the community
and the manufacturing sector in New Zealand and around the world.
Sir Angus served on the CMA’s Council and CEO Forum since 1994 and was awarded Life Membership in 2004 in recognition of
his services to the Association and manufacturing in New Zealand.
Tributes from CMA Council members have described him as an inspiration to all those who aspire to his successes as he
encouraged the development of quality people and products. His wisdom and respect for his fellow human beings will be
sadly missed.
Chief Executive John Walley knew Sir Angus for over 20 years and served on a number of boards with him.
“Angus was widely involved with the community; I worked closely with him over the years in several different roles and
situations. Angus had the ability to cut through to the heart of matter and lay it out for all to see. It was a pleasure
to have known him.”
“He will be remembered for the huge contribution he made to New Zealand manufacturing and the mentoring he gave to so
many, and I for one will never forget one of his comments on the only sources of real wealth - you can grow it, dig it
up or make it.”
