NZ Wood To Hit The Regions
The landmark NZ Wood programme will be showcased to the forestry and wood industry in a series of road-shows around New Zealandin August. The road-shows will unveil plans that bring the industry together behind a number of exciting new initiatives to grow the industry and the market for wood.
“It’s vital that people from the industry attend these road-shows and find out what NZ Wood is all about. Our message is clear: this is a programme that can significantly grow the industry and the market for wood products,” says Geoff Henley, Programme Manager, NZ Wood. “Anybody interested in growing their business should attend.”
NZ Wood is part of the future for the New Zealandforestry and wood industry. The programme involves research and development, public education, information on the use of wood as a building material, information on design using wood products, and promotion of plantation forests and wood in New Zealand.
The NZ Wood road-show presentations will demonstrate how businesses from across the industry can contribute to and benefit from the programme’s initiatives. The road-shows are the first in a series of campaigns that will involve all industry and the general public.
“The considerable environmental benefits of planting trees and using wood, and the versatility of wood as a building material are really the strongest messages behind the road-shows.
“Pollution of the environment has reached a critical point and it’s never been so important to educate New Zealanders on the importance of planting trees and consuming wood to mitigate the effects of climate change”, says Henley.
The road-shows also feature presentations on the Solid Wood Initiative: renewing focus on solid wood processing, research and development, and the Environmental Code of Practice for forestry - expected to be adopted industry-wide by the end of 2008.
NZ Wood is supported by New Zealand Forest Owners Association, Wood Processors Association, Douglas-fir Association, New Zealand Farm Forestry Association, New Zealand Pine Manufacturer’s Association, Forest Industry Contractors Association, the Timber Design Society, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
