Manukau companies highlighted as very good employers
A growing number of Manukau companies are showing commitment to excellent employment practices.
Six companies were named as finalists in the Brookfield Lawyers Employer of Choice Category in the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards, more than in any other category.
Kevin Hall of Brookfields Lawyers says that Manukau employers are amongst the leaders in the country at understanding they need to do something a little different in order to recruit, and keep, very good staff.
The companies highlighted in the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards are: Catch Restaurant/Guada Fiesta Bar, DSS Animal Management, International Travel College of New Zealand, Ray White of Manurewa, Solomon Group and Downer EDI Works Limited.
The winner will be the one that best demonstrates how it provides a stimulating and supportive workplace, to develop its human resources and achieve commercial success.
Kevin Hall says that the team is the single most important ingredient in good business: “Being a great employer, creating an environment that your team enjoys and thrives in, is not only personally rewarding and a valuable contribution to society, it is exceptional business sense," he states.
Winners in eleven categories, plus inductees into the Manukau Business Hall of Fame will be announced at a black-tie gala dinner at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on the evening of Friday 24 August. 1,000 people are expected to attend. Tickets are available by contacting Enterprising Manukau on 09 262 2244 or visiting www.bizawards.co.nz.
Sponsors are Manukau City Council, Westpac, Brookfields Lawyers, Wiri Licensing Trust, the Employers & Manufacturers Association, Cogita, Auckland International Airport Limited, ACC and the Manukau Community Foundation.
The Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards are delivered by Enterprising Manukau on behalf of Manukau City Council and have been a firm fixture on Manukau’s business calendar for 15 years.
