SKYCITY Host Responsibility Gets Favourable Result
SKYCITY Host Responsibility Produces Favourable Results
SKYCITY welcomes today's release of the 'Problem Gambling Intervention Services Report' by the Ministry of Health.
"We share community concern around problem gambling and it is pleasing to see that our continued proactive approach to harm minimisation is having the desired effect, " says Debbie Edwards, Manager Harm Minimisation.
"These statistics are part of the picture and the continued decrease in problem gamblers seeking help confirm that the sector's collective efforts are working. In particular the statistics demonstrate the effectiveness of SKYCITY's proactive approach to host responsibility. We have continued to enhance our focus on early identification and referrals to support services."
In mid 2005 SKYCITY voluntarily introduced a requirement for excluded customers to attend counselling prior to re-entry. A minimum of six counselling sessions and other stringent requirements must be met. This has increased the number of referrals to treatment providers, and probably accounts for a significant proportion of the casino related increase.
"In essence, we are intervening earlier and actively encouraging customers for whom problem gambling is an issue to utilise treatment services," says Ms Edwards. "Problem Gambling is quite simply not good for the sustainability of our business."
SKYCITY looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the Ministry of Health and problem gambling service providers.
